Why can’t large format dye sublimation printer change ink frequently?

large format dye sublimation printerInk is an important printing consumable that is indispensable in the printing process of large format dye sublimation printers. It is a frequently repeated purchase item. Some users choose different brands or even different types of ink for various reasons when purchasing ink. Here, I remind you that the ink of the large format dye sublimation printer cannot be changed frequently, and different types of ink cannot be mixed.

Different brands of printer inks are mixed: Different types of sublimation printers of different brands have different ink composition ratios. If mixed, the ink composition may change, and the color and variegated colors appear in the drawing. Even worse, the mixing of the two may cause precipitation, resulting in poor ink usage, clogging of the print head, and shortening the life of the printhead.

Different types of printer inks are mixed: There are several types of printer inks depending on the application. The most common ones are water-based inks and oil-based inks, which correspond to indoor printers and outdoor printers. The two ink components are different and cannot be mixed at all. Otherwise, the two components will chemically react, precipitate and precipitate, and block the printhead, which will seriously damage the print head.

The quality of printer ink will directly affect the printing effect and print quality of the image output of the sublimation transfer printer. Frequent replacement of the nozzle will cause more damage. Second, it will also affect the printing effect, increase the time cost, and reduce the profitability.

In addition, when you buy printer ink, you should consider the quality of the ink first. The original ink of the printer manufacturer is color-corrected and curve-tested. It is compatible with the device. It is recommended that you choose this type of ink first.

What’s the main parts of an dye sublimation printer?

Lets talk that what’s the main parts of an dye sublimation printer?

For a dye sublimation printer, the print heads build up a whole page of text or graphics from millions of separate dots. Controlled by your computer, the ink cartridge scans from left to right across the page and back again, depositing ink as it goes. Each time it reaches the end of a line, the paper advances forward slightly so the next line can be printed.

With the front of my printer open, you can clearly see all the important bits, Inside an sublimation inkjet printer, gears driven by an electric stepper motor turn rollers that advance the paper through the printer.

A flexible ribbon cable carries printing instructions from the electronic circuit inside the printer to the moving cartridge. Inkjet printers contain circuits that translate the instructions from your computer into precise movements of the printhead. The electronic bits and bobs aren’t actually visible on this photo. There’s usually a single, large circuit board somewhere in a printer with all the components mounted on it, including the control switches, LED display lights, and various connections to the printer mechanism and power supply.

Plastic and rubber rollers pinch the paper tightly so it can be moved through the printer with absolute precision.Image result for sublimation inkjet printer, Aasturdy metal rail guides the printer head as it moves back and forth. Spiked wheels at the front of the printer help to grip the paper securely and move it precisely.

The print cartridge prints from left to right then reverses the print information and prints backwards from right to left. This is known as bidirectional printing and allows pages to be printed much faster.

Do you know dye sublimation printer?

Dye sublimation printer, has been photo-quality output. The dye-sublimation printer uses solid pigment instead of ink, the basic principle is the color dyes by some means “moving” to the print media, to form a brilliant image. First of all, the source of the color dye ribbon, generally divided into yellow, magenta, cyan, black ribbon (S400 yellow, magenta, blue three colors), and then the print order to control the heating head and turn the ribbon on the dye is transferred onto the print medium.

Sublimation printer control the heating tim and temperature, so that each color point showing the changes in the concentration of 256 gradations; based inkjet ink dot analog color changes, changes in the concentration of each color dot can not be accurately controlled, and therefore the required the 256 inkjet point before the performance of the 256 levels of color. Therefore, in color performance, 300dpi dye-sublimation, the equivalent of inkjet 4800dpi! Sublimation printing color pigments cyan, magenta and yellow can be combined into color and will have a 256 (blue) × 256 (magenta) × 256 (yellow) = 16,700,000 kinds.

The most fundamental is that due to the transfer of the color ink droplet is not a physical, but the pigment of the gas phase (particles finer), formed by the almost continuous gradation color is very delicate, also do not see the ink-jet printing as point, especially in the performance of skin tones. In addition, the the special sublimation pigment chemical composition, print photo color, good adhesion, moisture, color stability, after several years will still be very bright.

Printing technology:

Dye-sublimation printing is a digital printing technology using full color artwork that works with polyester and polymer-coatedsubstrates. Also referred to as digital sublimation, the process is commonly used for decorating apparel, signs and banners, as well as novelty items such as cell phone covers, plaques, coffee mugs, and other items with sublimation-friendly surfaces. The process uses the science of sublimation, in which heat and pressure are applied to a solid, turning it into a gas through an endothermic reaction without passing through the liquid phase.

In sublimation printing, unique sublimation dyes are transferred to sheets of “transfer” paper via liquid gel ink through a piezoelectric print head. The ink is deposited on these high-release inkjet papers, which are used for the next step of the sublimation printing process. After the digital design is printed onto sublimation transfer sheets, it is placed on a heat press along with the substrate to be sublimated.

The most common process lays one color at a time, the dye being stored on a polyester ribbon that has each color on a separate panel. Each colored panel is the size of the medium that is being printed on; for example, a 6″ by 4″ dye sub printer would have four 6″ by 4″ panels.

During the printing cycle, the printer rollers will move the medium and one of the colored panels together under a thermal printing head, which is usually the same width as the shorter dimension of the print medium. Tiny heating elements on the head change temperature rapidly, laying different amounts of dye depending on the amount of heat applied. Some of the dye diffuses into the printing medium.

After the printer finishes printing the medium in one color, it winds the ribbon on to the next color panel and partially ejects the medium from the printer to prepare for the next cycle. The entire process is repeated four or five times in total: the first three lay the colors onto the medium to form a complete image; there may or may not then be a black thermal transfer process; while the last one lays the laminate over top. This layer protects the dyes from UV light and moisture.

Comparison with inkjet printers

Traditionally, the advantage of dye-sublimation printing has been the fact that it is a continuous-tone technology, where each dot can be any color. In contrast, inkjet printers can vary the location and size of ink droplets, a process called Applications: but each drop of ink is limited to the colors of the inks installed. Consequently, a dye-sublimation printer produces true continuous tones appearing much like a chemical photograph. An inkjet print is composed of droplets of ink layered and scattered to simulate continuous tones, but under magnification the individual droplets can be seen. In the early days of inkjet printing, the large droplets and low resolution made inkjet prints significantly inferior to dye-sublimation, but some of today’s inkjets produce extremely high quality prints using microscopic droplets and supplementary ink colors, producing superior color fidelity to dye-sublimation.

Previously, the use of dye-sub printing was limited to industrial or high-end commercial printing. Dye-sub photo printing has been used in medical imaging, graphic art.

What is the difference between an inkjet and dye sublimation printer?

Dye Sublimation Printer
This is a thermal transfer type of printer.
It operates by using the print head to generate heat on the color ink sheet so that the ink is vaporized (sublimated) and transferred onto a specially coated paper. By controlling the heat, the printing density can be modified in small values, so smooth gradations can be achieved.
*Sublimation is a phenomenon in which a solid turns into a gas without first changing into a liquid state.
Inkjet Printer
This type of printer operates by spraying microscopic particles of ink onto paper. For Oric inkjet printers, the print head nozzle is heated to generate bubbles, so that the ink spreads out. The technology makes it possible for the ink to land on the paper surface in precise shapes and on exact locations.
A wide range of paper, such as general printing paper, post cards, gloss paper, etc., can be used for printing.
